What does a day in the life of an engineer paramedic look like?

We are on a 48/96 schedule. I get here at 7:30 AM on Fridays and don't leave until 7:30 AM on Sundays. We do a full 48-hour shift with six hours off.

When I get to work, there's a shift change that takes about 30 minutes to an hour. The offgoing crew tells us what they did, any fires they responded to, or any equipment issues. I also look to make sure everything is put back properly or if there's any damage to the vehicle.

Then, I'm responsible for the rigs I'm assigned to and do a full checkout. This takes about an hour, ensuring the rig is safe to drive. Today, we will have training in the afternoon.

We usually try to get a workout in. I'm on the truck today, so I'm responsible for cooking dinner. The truck cooks our dinners. We'll go shopping for food at some point today, which usually occurs once a day.

We'll cook dinner and get a workout in somewhere in between. There are 10 of us at this fire station, so there are a lot of people here. We make big dinners. Towards the end of the night, we'll either sit down and watch the news or maybe play a game of pickleball. That's the day in the life here at the fire station.
