Could you walk me through your career path, starting with your experiences in college and any internships or jobs you had before your current role as an engineer paramedic?
Yes. After high school, I started at the Butte Fire Academy in Chico. That's a community college fire academy. It gives you a lot of your certifications, all your basics for firefighter one and your EMT.
After that, I got an internship at Willows Fire Department, where I worked a two-days-on, four-days-off schedule. I worked as a firefighter and EMT for six months and got my firefighter one signed off.
Then I took a seasonal position as a wildland firefighter. After my season with the Forest Service, I went to paramedic school and got my paramedic license. I then went to a private ambulance company based out of Stockton.
After working there, I was hired at 24 years old by San Ramon Valley Fire, my current department. I work there as a firefighter two paramedic. I've been here for just over seven years, so I'm actually coming up on eight years. I've been here since 2017.
