Significant Career Lesson from a Producer at Red Bull Media House

Cameron's most significant career lesson, learned from their mother, is to always have "a plan A, plan B, plan C," as things inevitably go wrong in production, requiring adaptability and backup strategies. This, combined with a proactive approach of "trying to be as good as you can where you currently are," building relationships, and seeking involvement in desired projects, has proven invaluable in their career journey.

What is one lesson that you have learned that has proven significant in your career?

One lesson my mom gave me was to always have a plan A, plan B, and plan C. She taught me this because things are going to go wrong.

This applies to my work at ESPN. If a piece of video won't restore, or there's an issue with the tape or recording, I need to have a backup plan. I have to ask myself if I have enough alternative video to cover the section.

This also applies when I'm in the field. As we discussed earlier, things can go wrong, and I need to pivot and make real-time decisions. Having a plan A, B, and C is definitely important.

Beyond that, another big thing is to be as good as you can where you are currently. Then, lay the groundwork, build relationships, and try to get involved in projects. Take on small roles to help you get to where you want to be.
