What a Commissioning Engineer at Sindoni Consulting wishes they had known before entering the Construction industry
Cameron, a Senior Commissioning Engineer, humorously notes the early mornings inherent in construction—"get ready to be a morning person"—but more seriously wishes someone had emphasized that a "mathematics wizard" is not required for a successful engineering career. The field welcomes dedicated individuals, even without specialized backgrounds, who demonstrate passion and commitment to thrive.

What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would have told you before you entered the industry?
My joking answer is, get ready to be a morning person. Construction starts early; there's no way around it. I've never been on a construction project where they roll in at noon.
The more serious answer is that I wish someone had told me you don't have to be a rocket scientist to get into engineering. There's a lot out there that doesn't require you to be some kind of mathematics wizard.
It's a really incredible field for many reasons. Even outside of engineering, the fields of construction and project management are similar. Many people who work in these fields don't have a specific construction or engineering background.
They thrive because they are dedicated, they show up, and they're passionate about the subject matter. I wish someone had encouraged me to try it sooner than I did.
