What does a day in the life of a senior commissioning engineer look like?

I'll give you two answers: one for a day in the field and one for a day in the office.

A day in the field starts bright and early at a job site, typically around 6 or 7 AM. You'll arrive when the site opens, meet your colleagues, and get acquainted with the location. If it's a new site, you'll bring checklists for what you need to inspect.

Then, you'll start taking pictures and using instrumentation to validate your findings. This is a typical day in the field.

Usually, the next day is spent in the office to write up everything you discovered. As a senior commissioning agent, a typical office day involves a lot of project management.

This includes taking calls and responding to emails from clients. You'll also address issues found by field teams performing testing for your managed projects. Attending meetings is frequent, and you'll conduct design reviews, examining plans and drawings.

You'll also perform calculations to validate information. It's a varied role, heavily focused on writing and documentation. You need to be a people person, as your job is to communicate technical information to those without an engineering background.
