What do you enjoy most about being in the government-funded research industry?

I really like how it's so mission-driven and oriented. I'm not just working for a corporation that's just out there to make money.

A lot of people thrive in that environment, and that's great for them, but that's not something that I really find valuable. That's one thing that I really enjoy about it.

I'll also say that working for the government, there's a great work-life balance. It's not the most glamorous or sexy position, but it is very pragmatic and stable.

Once you have an offer, you want to look at the entire compensation package. Depending on the government entity, it can be very competitive.

As someone who really enjoys personal finance, looking at something like your pension and healthcare as you're retiring, which is decades away, can be really valuable and a long-term win. It might even outweigh any offer you get from private industry, depending on what you're aiming for.
