What are your main responsibilities within your role?
The chief of staff role is a bit unusual. For reference, the company I worked for had between 10 and 20 people, so it wasn't particularly large.
On one hand, you're involved in executive management. As chief of staff, I participated in many strategic conversations, sitting right under the CEO.
This involved discussions about hiring and the broader direction of the company. On the other hand, you're often responsible for specific projects or parts of the organization.
If you help set the strategy, you then take ownership of a portion and become more operational. I ran the product and engineering organizations, functioning almost like a product manager for 60-70% of my day.
