What do you enjoy most about being in your industry?
What I enjoy most about anesthesiology is that we see a wide variety of patients and surgeries every single day. Our practice is much broader than people think. People know us as the person who puts you to sleep for surgery, and that's it.
But we see all different kinds of surgeries and patients. You really don't know what's going to walk in through your door, sometimes even for emergencies. I really love that variety and the acuity that we see as anesthesiologists.
We take care of otherwise healthy patients and tiny babies at a pediatric hospital. We also care for very sick patients who are on ECMO. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, it was very cool to see how anesthesiologists involved in critical care rose to the forefront of patient care.
They had to be innovative. That was really cool to see, not only from my perspective as an upcoming anesthesiologist, but also within the community. I think it's really cool to be able to see that.
I love that we have a presence in multiple different places throughout a person's life. We're always there whenever you need surgery. I think that's cool to see.
