A Day In The Life Of A Chief Of Staff At An Education Non-Profit
Brian, a Chief of Staff at an education non-profit, describes a day as "a little bit of everything," including leading team meetings, grant writing, vendor communication, and staff coaching, emphasizing that no two days are alike and the role is highly variable depending on the organization and leader. The variety, a mix of "meetings and individual work," is something Brian clearly enjoys.

What does the day in the life of a chief of staff look like?
One thing to know is that no Chief of Staff role looks exactly the same. It varies significantly by the person, the organization, and the needs of the executive director or leader. So, take this with a very large grain of salt.
Knowing that every day in the life of a Chief of Staff is a little different, some of it will be a mix of meetings and individual work. Some of the things I might do in a day include preparing for and leading our Organizational Leadership Team meeting.
I might be working on a grant update for one of our funders, or drafting some emails to other funders or sponsors that the executive director can send out. I might also be having phone calls with vendors.
As I mentioned, we're working on getting a CRM, so I might be having conversations with either our current or a potential vendor. I might also be coaching one of our staff members on how they can do project management or facilitate their team meetings a little better.
Suffice to say, no day is exactly the same. I'm sure that's true for a lot of jobs, but certainly in the case of a Chief of Staff role, it's a little bit of everything, and I actually really enjoy that.
