What A Film Post Production Supervisor At A Production Studio Wishes They Had Known Before Entering The Film Industry
Brandi, a Film Post-Production Supervisor, advises against traditional entry-level roles like production assistant due to their demanding, full-time nature, stating that "post-production can be six months, seven months, eight months". Instead, she champions creating "your own projects" and independent work as the most effective path to a fulfilling career in film, emphasizing that this approach allows for control over one's creative direction and ultimately leads to greater success.

What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergraduate college student might consider?
I'm going to say something that might be a little out of the box. Aside from being a production assistant, which is how I started, I honestly couldn't have done it while I was in school. It's a full-time job.
Unless it had been during a school break, but even then, it's difficult. Post-production can take six, seven, or even eight months. It's definitely something that requires a freer schedule to pursue.
What I would suggest is working on your own projects and making things with your friends. That's truly the best way to build the career you want in the film industry. It puts you in control of what you're creating.
If your work gets attention in that way, you'll be set up for a much more successful and happy career. So, rather than focusing on specific entry-level positions, always think about how you can support independent work or how you can create your own.
