What does a day in the life of a post-production supervisor look like?

My typical day can look like many different things, so there isn't really a "typical" day. Usually, in the mornings, depending on whether a film is in production, I check in with my production crew. I talk to editors, assistant editors, and creative executives.

I make sure everyone is getting what they need, depending on our stage in the process. Sometimes things are just humming along, like your body's nervous system; you don't have to think about breathing. But other days, I need to check in and assess progress.

Some days I attend screenings. These are test screenings where you see a movie that might not have been released yet. At the end, a person asks for feedback on the film. I set up and run these screenings, spending the day at a movie theater ensuring it looks and sounds its best.

Another favorite part of my job is attending the mixes of films. This is where all the sound comes together: the music, dialogue, and sound effects. Any created sound effects, like those from Foley, are brought together and mixed to create the film's sonic world. I oversee that these processes go well and on time.

The one constant is that I am getting people what they need. People come to me because something needs to happen and be facilitated. My daily task is ensuring artists are supported, along with our infrastructure, to make these films as best as possible.
