Q8: Who thrives in industry?

How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?

I think it comes back to two things. First, you have to have some degree of technical skill; that's the foundation.

But I would say the more important qualities are being able to communicate really well and work well as a team. As we scale up, it's less productive to be a solo hero genius.

The problems we have to solve are too big for any one person. So, being an effective team member, whether guiding the team or contributing, requires good communication skills, attitude, and people skills.

On a base level, there's the technical need the team has, whether scientific or program management. This means understanding how the pieces fit together more deeply than how individual pieces work. There's a huge need for a wide variety of technical skills and backgrounds.

But everyone really needs to be able to communicate and work well together.
