What type of person thrives in the Design industry, according to a Design Professional at Cushing Terrell

Blake believes people who thrive in the business development and design industry are "nose down grinders" who prioritize learning and delivering the best possible product, and mentions an example of someone who moved to New York willing to be paid "nothing" to learn under the best architect. Those passionate about sustainability also excel, particularly in areas like Seattle where clients highly value sustainable and recycled products.

How would you describe people who typically thrive in your industry?

People who really thrive are nose-down grinders. They're willing to stay late and put everything they have into these drawings.

There's a guy in our office who moved to New York and was getting paid nothing. He was working under an amazing architect, and his whole mindset was, "I'm here to learn. I'm not here to make money. I'm here to be under the best."

If you want to make a ton of money, this is not the industry to get into. But if you're really passionate about sustainability and delivering the best product possible, it's a great industry.

We have people in our office who are all about sustainable products. Especially in Seattle, that's a big thing with many companies based there. Everyone wants sustainable, recycled carpets and furniture. People passionate about that tend to thrive. They pick the best products, and clients love it.
