What are your main responsibilities within your role?
To ensure seniors are on track, we actually start with them as juniors. In the spring of their junior year, we begin working with them on how to write a college essay. Several of them also apply for a scholarship called QuestBridge Quest Prep Scholars.
This is the first college essay they write. Then, during the summer and fall of their senior year, we work with them on their college essays. We have several writing coaches, and as a co-director, I am one of them.
We struggle through the process with the students. It's not easy and it's a huge amount of work for them. We are in the midst of it right now, as students are writing their essays for the Universities of California. However, they do it and they do an absolutely beautiful job, and for the most part, get into spectacular colleges that are really good fits for them.
