What are your main responsibilities within your current role?
Basically, I have multiple positions that I fill in on. When I'm reporting, my main responsibility is to come to work every day with a pitch. If that pitch gets chosen, I go ahead and do that story.
I set up the interviews, I report, and I write it all. If I'm by myself, usually after I write it, I record my voice saying my story, and then I edit it all together into a video story.
If I'm producing, I start stacking the flow of the show. This means I choose what stories we are going to be airing in our six o'clock newscast. Any story that is not a reporter story is one that I write.
So, for stories about guest prices or the first day of school, I'm writing those. Since it's usually a half-hour broadcast, I write all the stories and make sure all the reporter stories get in the show correctly. Then, I go into the producer booth during the actual show and time it all down to the second, because time is very important.
I also give weather their time cues. I also fill in on weather a lot. When I do that, I get my forecast ready, and then it's doing live hits in the 4:00 PM, 5:00 PM, 6:00 PM, 7:00 PM, and 11:00 PM shows.
So, a lot of different jobs, they all entail very different things every day. But I like mixing it up a lot, so that's really good for me.
