Favorite parts of working in the News industry as an ABC 10News KGTV Journalist

Ava, a journalist at ABC 10News KGTV, finds the adrenaline rush of live TV, particularly "going live at a fire," incredibly exciting, a feeling amplified by the "rush of it all" and the opportunity to show viewers unique perspectives. The job's glamorous side, "playing dress up" and "getting all fancy," is also a favorite, a less-discussed aspect of the profession.

What do you enjoy most about being in your industry?

This is an answer that a lot of people feel deep down, but they don't often say it. I really do enjoy being on TV; I genuinely think it's fun.

Live TV, as I've mentioned, has so much adrenaline attached to it. For example, I went live at a fire the past week. Standing there with your microphone, camera in front of you, your earpiece in, and your producer saying "standby, get ready" is very exciting.

I think that's one of my favorite parts: the rush of it all. Going to breaking news and showing the viewer something they won't see if they're just scrolling on their phone is incredibly rewarding.

I also really do like playing dress-up. I know that's not everyone's favorite part about being a reporter, but I love wearing the dresses, wearing the fake eyelashes, and doing my makeup. Feeling pretty and then just going to do my job normally is great.

It's kind of like a uniform. I love putting on the uniform and getting all dolled up just to go to work, because it's kind of necessary in this job. So, I know that's not what a lot of people say. They probably say the storytelling, which is obviously one of my favorite parts.

But getting all fancy for it is also fun. I feel like I should say that to represent that side of the industry, because it's a huge part of the industry that isn't talked about a lot.
