How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?

I would say people who are a little more technically focused. There is a lot of nuance within the science that allows for precision.

You don't necessarily have to be technical. I have no science background; my background is in marketing and finance, so totally business. But I spent my career in a very science-focused, science-heavy area, working with pretty technical people. Being able to at least understand and apply is something that's really important.

That also comes with being detail-oriented. I think that's a big piece. This industry moves really quickly, so someone who's willing to be open to change, be on their toes, and adapt to where things are moving in the industry is key. They should be able to pivot their research, if they're on the science side, or how they're approaching their customers, if they're on the business, sales, or marketing side. They need awareness of what's going on and then the ability to pivot.

To summarize, someone who is detail-oriented, can learn something technical pretty quickly, and is willing to adapt and change are the three biggest things.
