What did you do in undergrad to set you up for success in your career?

One thing I would always advise all undergrad students is: I know a lot of people think that after college they can look for jobs, but don't do that at all. Definitely start planning while you're in college to look for internships.

Or even serve as a communications intern within the college setup. I'm sure there are different departments that require someone to manage social media or write newsletters for them. So ask around, get your professors to connect you with the right internships.

And then, I think that what this advisor is doing is great, which is to ask people who are more experienced than you to give you their take on what you can do to set yourself up for success. Because as an undergrad, the world is your oyster. You're so young, so full of hope before the real world beats it out of you.

So, do as many internships as possible, read up on all the careers that you want. And also remember, it's okay to pivot. As you come into undergrad, you might think that this is what you want, but you might want to switch.

I think communications is such a great field that you can switch into different types of communication. It can be health communications, fashion communication, whatever you want.
