What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergraduate college student might consider pursuing?

We start with internships. We hire lots of interns, typically over the summer. Our internships can be very entry-level, and we do pay our interns. You can also do very hyperspecific projects as an intern.

Then there's something like a data curator. A data curator takes new data that comes in and makes it clean, searchable, and useful for researchers. They help researchers find data for whatever their project is.

In my particular department, which is Communications, we look for communication specialists. Typically, we look for people with a Communications or marketing degree, but we also consider those with experience in these fields.

For example, you could have been a computer science major. But if you ran a club and managed your own social media, and you can show us how you increased your social media engagement, we would definitely consider that.

It doesn't matter what your degree was if you can show us that you have the experience, the gumption to stick with it, and a willingness to figure out problems with us. Adaptability and finding new ways to approach a problem are also key qualities we look for in an entry-level person.
