What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would have told you before you entered the industry?
It's always good to have a background. Especially if you haven't programmed for years, it will probably be very difficult for you to learn programming on the job and work with engineers from the very beginning of your tenure.
But if you programmed in college, or if you are a good programmer in principle, then it always helps to work on technology projects. A lot of what we started with had programming-intensive products.
You'll be able to consult with them better if you are a good programmer. I wish I had known this so that I would have given up my programming skills early enough. I did not; I have had to learn it on my own.
