What are your main responsibilities within your current role?

I'm currently a lawyer, brand new in this role. I've been at it since September, so about four or five months now.

My main responsibilities are due diligence and a lot of reading, writing, and analysis. I'm tasked on a transaction or a deal that's come through our doors. My job is to make sure all the documents from our client and the opposing side match what each party is representing to each other.

This involves combing through multiple documents in a given sitting and trying to spot any issues. The big part of my day is also participating in a lot of drafting and review of other documents.

Anything from a simple employment agreement to a loan and financing deal, it covers a wide range of different types of transactions. The other part is a lot of research. Contrary to what people think, lawyers don't know everything. We do have to do some research on a daily basis to find the best possible answer to any question posed to us. So, I spend a lot of time going online, going through our databases and different resources to find those answers.
