Could you walk me through your career path, starting with your experiences in college? Did you have any internships or jobs before your current role?
In college, I was a transfer student. I started my transfer college years working in retail at Nordstrom Rack. When I moved and transferred to UCLA, I switched to the full Nordstrom store.
It was one of the best experiences I ever had in a retail environment. You learn how to speak to customers, the value of customer service, how to work in a team, collaborate, report to bosses, and meet sales goals.
While at UCLA, I found an opportunity that was more educational than an actual job. I found the Edge program through the Anderson School of Management, which was a three-week intensive course in business management fundamentals. I loved it so much that I got in touch with the program managers.
I asked if I could work with them during my senior year at UCLA. Luckily, they had a position open, and they hired me as a student assistant to help facilitate the same types of programs I had participated in. I spent the year with them, and it was great. I was constantly surrounded by executives and senior-level management.
This involved helping with minor tasks like setting up a break room and getting materials ready. After I graduated from UCLA, I pursued a full-time position in that same office. They hired me the day after graduation as a program coordinator.
I worked in that role for about six months before being promoted to program manager. I worked in that job for about five years, throughout law school and up until the bar exam.
