Biggest Challenges Faced by an Attorney at Stubbs Alderton and Markiles LLP

Ani's biggest challenge as an attorney is overcoming the ingrained habit of "knowing it all," a characteristic developed from previous roles as a student and program manager. The transition requires embracing the limitations of a new career and learning to comfortably say "I don't know," a process that will ultimately lead to expertise in their field.

What is your biggest challenge in your current role?

I would say probably accepting that I don't know it all yet. For a long time, I've been comfortable in my role as a student or in my prior job. I was an expert student, an expert program manager for so long that I knew it all.

Now, being thrown into an environment where everything is new, with a lot more responsibility, I'm just accepting that I have limitations right now. I will surpass those limitations once I'm more experienced and more educated in my field.

I think the larger challenge is saying, "I don't know." I don't like to say I don't know or I can't. So, being able to understand again that's a limitation I have right now in my newness at this foundational level of being a lawyer.

I'm just constantly striving to learn and be better and do things better. So that one day I'll get to the point where I can say, "Now, I'm an expert in X," like I used to be an expert student or expert program manager.
