A Day in the Life of a Systems Analyst in Higher Education
A Systems Analyst in Higher Education starts their day reviewing and approving journals and monitoring system integrations to ensure they're functioning correctly. A significant part of the role also involves working with end-users to gather requirements for new system implementations and customizing existing systems to "meet our end user needs," though this ebbs and flows depending on the project pipeline and time of the fiscal year.

What does a day in the life of a systems analyst look like?
Okay. For me personally, I know assistant analyst roles can look very different depending on the organization. My day starts by approving and reviewing journal entries. Then I look at the integrations and monitor them to make sure they're working well.
Depending on what project we're working on, we might have an implementation of a new system. I'll meet with end users to gather requirements. If we don't have one of those projects, sometimes they overlap.
Right now, we're in a lull with no project implementations, which is a relief because we're right near the end of the fiscal year. You don't want any craziness, especially not new integrations at that time.
Essentially, I service the end users, who are my coworkers. Since I work in backend finance for the whole organization, I customize our systems to meet their needs.
