What have you learned about this role that you wish someone had told you before you entered the industry?
That's a tough question for me. I think what I would have liked to know is probably how much paperwork is involved when working with the government.
Obviously, you can work in construction without working under the government. But I guess I would have liked to be prepared for the fact that it does involve a fair amount of sitting down at your desk and working through things.
That's not something I encountered in my last internship because I was only working with private companies. So, I guess if I had known, I would have been more prepared to be on top of the millions of pieces of paper you have to fill out every day when working with the government.
Hate it or love it, it is what it is. If I had been a little more prepared for that, it wouldn't have been quite as much of a shock to the system.
