Entry-Level Positions For Aspiring Construction Inspectors

Aidan, a Construction Inspector with RockSol Consulting Group, identifies "construction inspector" and "materials testing" as readily available entry-level roles, noting that many firms provide training for the latter. The inspector role, in particular, requires "boots on the ground" to document construction progress, a position Aidan considers a viable first job after college.

What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergraduate college student might consider?

I'm technically still in an entry-level position, as I've only been working for almost two years. As you get promoted, it's the same field, but with increasing responsibility.

My role is a construction inspector. Tons of companies always need boots on the ground, essentially just eyeballs to see what's happening and document it. A position like mine is very much an available entry-level role, probably all over the country.

Materials testing is another good way to get started in this industry. If you don't start immediately as an inspector, many companies will happily pay for you to get trained and certified in testing materials like concrete and asphalt.

That kind of work typically goes to an intern. I did a lot of that when I was an intern. When you're a college graduate, they'll move you from testing more towards inspection. But yes, construction inspector is absolutely a viable first job path out of college.
