What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would have told you before you started?
I think you can look at a resume or a job description and see all the different tasks. You might look at it and think, "Yeah, I'm probably doing half of those in the first year." But for someone working in any nonprofit, what's on the job description is likely what you will be doing.
That's probably a conversation I wish I'd had. But something else I've learned is how many different experiences I would be able to have in this job. I've had the chance to travel. I've had the chance to go to galas.
I've also had the chance to go canvassing in neighborhoods I'd never been in before. I think that's a part of the job I didn't know about when I started. There's no way anyone could have explained it to me until I actually experienced it.
