What do you enjoy most about being in your current role?

I love that I get to be the captain of my own ship. For so many years, as a full-time employee in other organizations, you have autonomy up to a certain point. But there were always structures in place.

What I love about running my own business is that I get to do it in the way that I want. Sometimes that's great, and sometimes it's not, but you learn. The ownership of my own time seems like the greatest gift I can give myself.

I can take on work that I want to do and say no to things that I don't want to do. So in some ways, it feels very indulgent. But I also get to pursue things without asking for permission, which is the first time in my career I've ever been able to do that.

That has really built a huge sense of confidence for myself. I don't have to ask, "Can I attend this?" or "Can I speak at this?" or "Could I write something for this organization?" I just do it.
