Transcript
What does a day in the life of an oral surgeon look like?
I would be considered an academic oral surgeon, meaning I work at a university. Oral surgeons can work in different types of practices, such as private practice, which is what you might see in the community.
As an academic oral surgeon, my week is split between seeing patients in the clinic and operating in the operating room. For clinic days, the day usually starts around 8:00 AM.
The first patient is typically scheduled for 8:00 AM or just before. We have procedures within the morning, and then in the afternoon, we usually have consultations and post-op follow-ups.
An OR day usually starts around 7:00 to 7:30 AM and can go from anywhere from two o'clock to seven o'clock at night. It depends on the type of surgery and what's happening with it.
