What does a day in the life of an industry relations manager look like?
The first thing I do in the morning is check my emails and respond to inquiries from employers, team members, or students. Being prompt in my responses is critical to ensure the relationship aspect of my role is fulfilled.
Next, I log into Handshake. This is the platform we use for connecting employers with students. On Handshake, we typically approve jobs, events, and employer registrations.
We approve these for employers who want to recruit UCLA students and for similar activities. Handshake essentially acts as the hub for students and employers.
Throughout the day, I attend different meetings. These meetings can be with our team, campus departments, or employers. These employers might want to become partners or have an initiative they want us to share with students and student organizations on campus.
Following the meetings, I usually work on deliverables. These deliverables typically involve generating outreach emails, collecting data on different industries, job postings, or past events. I also create templates.
Creating templates is a big focus for us because we want to use them for tracking and maintaining important information. It's typically a busy day, and no two days are the same.
One thing I really love about this position is the flexibility. I can really think about ways to optimize our work and become more efficient. This includes using new technology or leveraging new relationships with student organizations or employers. It's a fun and dynamic work environment.
