What does a day in the life of a producer look like?

By nature, I was going to start by saying it's a lot of juggling. I kind of covered this in the last question with my hands in the air, but it's literally a lot of juggling.

This involves managing the schedule, figuring out how to get all the work done, and prioritizing different pieces. I also focus on helping the team stay focused on their specific areas of expertise.

I manage back with PR regarding timelines. We also need to ensure we're getting ahead of what's coming, so we're not always in a cycle of being behind, which happens when you get very busy. My boss likes to say it's great that there's so much good news to share, but we have a lot of work to do.

Expectation management is key, as is working cross-functionally. In this type of role, even in an agency role at Sierra Nevada, you're working across marketing efforts, PR needs, and timelines, and with other teams producing visuals.

I start my day by looking at my calendar, not my email. This helps identify priorities and focus on them. We also have a project calendar and tracker.

This helps me remember if something is behind schedule or if we have time to get ahead. Our team meets on Monday, so I prepare what we need to discuss to ensure we hit everything throughout the week.

I also have some administrative responsibilities, which help set up the team for success. We use Slack, and I ensure channels are set up with all the details. This gives people the tools to manage their own expectations.

Ultimately, a lot of it is juggling. It's important to have self-awareness and awareness for the team regarding other priorities, so we can fit our pieces together and deliver on what our colleagues need.
