How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?
I'll answer this question in terms of tech sales specifically. There are so many different types of people who can be successful in tech sales. The misconception is that there's only one kind of person who can succeed, and that's not true.
I see people at the top of their game who have completely different personalities. However, I think there are a few things that unite many people in tech sales, and that is being competitive.
This doesn't mean you have to be competitive with other people, but it does mean you need to have a drive within yourself to want to do better than you did last quarter or last year. People who thrive really like to take control of their own destiny.
There are so many external factors in sales and in any role in general. But people who really thrive in sales like the idea that their inputs will equal an output. They are excited about the fact that they feel they can control their inputs, and that will control their output.
Usually, people in sales who thrive love money and enjoy making it. It's important to them that they are successful in that regard.
