What skills are most important for a job like yours?
In 2018-2019, I completed an executive program at UCLA. The program was designed to develop us into T-shaped leaders.
When we talk about a T-shaped leader, this is where my thinking evolved. When we look at anyone in a leadership position, their breadth of knowledge, the horizontal bar of the "T," needs to be extensive.
This means they need to understand finance, HR, product planning, market trends, and geopolitical situations. Networking and marketing are also crucial aspects that need to be well-developed.
However, when in a specialist role, like a CTO, the depth of that specific role needs to be significantly larger. In my current position as a managing director or CXO, my horizontal is broader. The key skill required is to continuously learn and enrich that broad base of knowledge.
