A Day in the Life of a Senior Bilingual UX Researcher at Bixal
A senior bilingual UX researcher at Bixal highlighted "a wide repertoire of research methods" as a crucial technical skill, but also emphasized softer skills like storytelling—"the ability to create a compelling story out of sometimes a giant mess of data"—and empathy—"the ability to genuinely listen to what the people that you're doing research with are saying"—as equally vital for success in the field. Academic presentation experience directly translates into the role's presentation demands, underscoring the importance of adaptability and continuous learning.

What skills are most important for a job like yours?
First and foremost, technical skills are essential. This means having a wide repertoire of research methods that you have experience with and can perform well.
Aside from that, public speaking and presentation skills are also really critical. My academic experience really helped with this. All the presentations for course papers and at conferences directly translate into the presentations I do now.
I would also say storytelling is a big skill. This is the ability to create a compelling story out of a giant mess of data, to make sense of it in a way that compels people to take action based on the story you tell.
Similarly, empathy is important. If you can consider it a skill, it's the ability to genuinely listen to what the people you're doing research with are saying. Being able to really get inside the minds of your participants is crucial.
Last, flexibility and openness to learn are critical as well.
