What does a day in the life of a resource manager look like?
A typical day in the life for me is a lot of emails, quite honestly. The majority of my work is done over email, communicating with different stakeholders within the company and across various teams.
This involves communication from the sales team to our project managers, and from our accounting team to our business development managers. We really touch every single department in the company.
So, it's a lot of coordination between them. We're kind of the middleman, the go-to point, the central point, whatever you want to call it. We receive a lot of emails with requests and then have to get them to the right people and gather the right information.
We then bring that information back. That's the type of coordination we do. As I said, it's a lot of emails.
I also have a few set weekly calls, not a ton of calls, which is nice and allows me to get things done. These calls are for staffing, where myself and the staffing directors can speak together. We discuss any issues we may have, difficult staffing situations, or collaborate across teams and share resources.
We have a couple of these calls a week, which is good because they can be done in real time. Then there's a little bit of data entry in the role, definitely working with the project management system. We make sure to keep records of all the project details and who's working on what.
It's a bit of data entry, but that's secondary to the communication, emails, and all that.
