Biggest Challenges Faced by a Digital Media Manager at an Investment Firm

Lisa's biggest challenge as a Digital Media Manager is navigating international, cross-functional teams and their varying cultural approaches to work; the need to adapt to differing work styles, such as the "on time disciplined" culture of Japan versus others, required Lisa to proactively manage time and expectations to ensure project success and support colleagues globally.

What is your biggest challenge in your current role?

My biggest challenge has been learning how to work with different cross-functional teams internationally. Everyone is super awesome and kind, but there are definitely cultural differences that I had to learn very quickly.

For example, in some countries, it was okay if things moved along slowly. However, in Japan, the culture emphasizes being on time, discipline, and getting the work done. This was a bit more difficult for me, especially with the time difference.

After learning what was expected, it became easier to allocate more emotional and literal time to pushing through Japan projects. This ensured they wouldn't be in a position where they had to tell their managers or leaders that the project wasn't being done, and they would take the fall for it.

Knowing that we are all working together and looking out for everyone's best interest helps ensure that things don't look bad for them, or for us and everyone down the line.
