How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?
I'll stick with the marketing side of data capture. I think the people who thrive will be those obsessed with finding interesting things in a data set.
People who enjoy analyzing data, looking at an Excel sheet, and trying to find something interesting will love working in data and data mining. It's fun to find something interesting and present it to someone, saying, "Hey, look what I found!"
Seeing them get excited or finding information they can use to change something, like an email campaign or lead nurture, is rewarding. You can find consumers specific to what they're looking for so they can be reached out to directly.
You can also score consumers based on survey answers, allowing agents or dealers to follow up with them specifically. There are so many different avenues when it comes to data.
Everything is wide open with data; you have a lot of power over controlling the narrative. You can present things in a different way, even on a bad day, by saying, "Hey, you can perform and do this."
Data is very powerful in the way you present it. You have all the control. You can tell clients they did great, even if they didn't, though you shouldn't always do that. It's a very powerful tool.
If you genuinely enjoy looking at a data set and finding interesting things, you will thrive and love your job. That's what I've really enjoyed over the past few years; that's what makes it exciting.
