Career Path Of A Senior Account Coordinator At Event Marketing Tech Company

This experience, combined with a surprising shift in perspective after initially disliking a college statistics class, led to a career in experiential marketing, where Lauren now uses data analysis and survey distribution—skills initially found tedious in school—"to create a presentation" and deliver insights to clients.

Could you walk me through your career path, starting with your experiences in college? Did you have any internships or jobs before your current role?

While in college, I worked in social media outreach, promoting Zipcar. My team of three and I would visit dorms to figure out how students without cars on campus could use the service. This was my first business-related experience.

This led to an interest in the event space, as we hosted events in the dorms. Eventually, this evolved into a passion for planning events.

That summer, I interned with SMS Business Consulting. My role involved contacting business owners to see if they'd meet with our sales representatives for consulting services. It was an interesting internship, mainly focused on learning about people, how they work, and different personalities.

These experiences helped shape my academic path. My major was interdepartmental, combining students, marketing analytics, and communications.

There was one statistics class I really disliked. We had to create surveys, analyze data, and present findings. I found it time-consuming and not aligned with my interests.

However, after college, during my job search, I discovered how many interesting roles involved data analysis. This sparked my interest in the field, which is where my current work in events and experiential marketing comes in. Analyzing data and distributing surveys, skills learned in that disliked statistics class, are now central to my profession.

My current role involves distributing surveys, analyzing the data, and presenting the findings to clients. In essence, my unusual college experiences led me to my current position.
