What do you enjoy most about being a teacher?
Being an elementary school teacher, particularly in first or second grade, offers the greatest gift: teaching someone or being part of their experience in learning how to become a lifelong reader. It's about working with individual students or groups.
I always viewed my classroom as a team and myself as the coach, mentor, and cheerleader. My role was to guide them.
At the end of the year, or whenever it happens, seeing their progress is incredible. Some children start the year already reading, while others have very little basis.
Wherever they are on their journey, being part of their literate journey in life is so rewarding. Once you become a reader, you are always a reader. That is so exciting to be a part of someone's development.
I would say that is probably the most rewarding experience about being a teacher for me.
