College Experiences That Helped A Co-Founder And CEO At Ascender Systems Succeed

Jorge pursued an MBA to address a self-identified gap in finance and budget management at the highest levels, which directly prepared them for current responsibilities involving quarterly reports, shareholder views, and annual reports. The coursework, particularly the "finance course," provided invaluable experience in analyzing 10Ks and other financial documents, ensuring they weren't seeing this type of material for the first time when expected to "monitor and track and provide inputs into those, those reports."

What did you do in graduate school to set you up for success in your career?

As far as grad school, I was already in the role I am in now. I pursued my MBA because I self-identified a gap in finances and in how we manage budgets at the highest levels.

Currently, in my role, I do have to worry about how our quarterly reports will be viewed by our shareholders and how our annuals will be reported on our 10-Ks. When I was taking my MBA, and as you would recall, Nicole, we took our finance course and we were going through 10-Ks, looking at those reports with due diligence.

I ended up doing the same thing. It paid dividends to go through that coursework and not see it for the first time when I was expected to monitor, track, and provide input into those reports. It has been essential for my growth and my projections within the company.
