What skills are most important for a job like yours?

Some skills that are really important for a job like mine, working in marketing analytics, are curiosity and a love of learning. I'm constantly looking for new ways to do my job or new trends and how we can implement them. I enjoy that a lot.

Having a sense of initiative is also key. If something sparks an interest when I'm learning about things, and it looks relevant to our business, I'm starting out by pursuing it and figuring out how it can actually help. This includes coming up with a solution set for how it can be implemented into our business without people having to tell me to do so.

Emotional intelligence is also very important. Having empathy and compassion allows me to listen and best understand customer needs and how we can communicate our value to them in a way that resonates. It also means being respectful but assertive, so you can work well within the team and other departments while still holding everyone accountable.

Lastly, comfortability with data, numbers, and statistical methods is essential. This includes an overall understanding of how data can be structured. For the statistics side, it means knowing how to tell if a data solution partner is really doing what they say they can do. For example, understanding a randomized control trial when trying to understand return on ad spend. This also includes coding within a specific type of programming language.
