Jamie, a Teacher, emphasizes that the most significant lesson has been to "put people first." Whether in management roles for the state or as an educator, a better response is garnered when people feel genuinely cared for, going beyond seeing them as just "a worker be" or a "student," but as a person.

What is one lesson that you've learned that has proven significant in your career?
Put people first. You have to care; you have to genuinely care about people.
That started in my career with the state when I was in management. You get a better response from people when they feel like you genuinely care.
That's whether you are their manager or their teacher. I found that it works the same way. If they know that you really see them, you don't just see a worker in the workforce or a student in the educational arena, but that you see a person, you see them.
So, that one lesson has proven the most significant in my career.
