Biggest Challenges Faced by a Product and Sales Specialist at HearUSA

Dr.'s biggest challenge as a Product and Sales Specialist at HearUSA is educating consumers about the differences between personalized hearing aids dispensed by audiologists and those purchased online or over-the-counter, especially given the recent changes in the industry and the new over-the-counter hearing aid bill. This challenge stems from the rising availability of cheaper hearing aids online, which often lack the personalized fitting and adjustments provided by a professional.

Q6: Biggest challenge in your role?

What is your biggest challenge in this role?

Right now, audiology is going through a lot of change. Optometrists experienced something similar a few years ago when their industry saw a lot of online advertising for eyeglasses.

There's now advertising for hearing aids online, with claims like "you can get a hearing aid for $300." We sell hearing aids for much more than that, so people don't necessarily understand the difference.

With the changes the industry is going through, especially now with the Over-the-Counter Hearing Aid Act that was recently passed, it's a challenge to educate people on the differences. If someone gets a hearing aid from an audiologist, it's a personalized piece of equipment.

The hearing device is programmed and adjusted to the patient's needs. This is very different from getting one over the counter or just buying it online. So, that is a big challenge.
