What skills are most important for a job like yours?
There are many useful skills in marketing, both soft and technical. Holistically, I think the three most valuable soft skills to develop are adaptability, persuasion, and organization.
Adaptability is crucial because marketing is very susceptible to internal and external shifts. This includes changing priorities, new targets, or revenue goals within the business. Externally, you have to be reactive to new market trends and current events.
For example, elections can significantly impact marketing, even for non-political organizations. The ability to change your strategies and adapt to different trends is therefore really important.
Persuasion is also key, not just in marketing your product to an audience, but in getting buy-in internally. Marketing depends on alignment with your leadership team and other departments.
Ensuring that sales, customer service, and product teams understand your campaigns and are bought into the ideas is vital. Lastly, organization is essential.
As a marketer, you're likely juggling many responsibilities and wearing multiple hats. You might be strategizing, executing, or doing both simultaneously.
Being organized helps you keep track of projects, their status, and who's involved. Ensuring edits, feedback rounds, and launches happen on time is incredibly important for staying organized.
