What is one lesson that you have learned that has proven significant in your career?
One big lesson I've learned is to always keep an open mind. As I went through school and my career so far, I've learned about different areas of finance. You never know where something might take you.
I initially wanted to do investment banking or high finance when I was a freshman. That has obviously changed, and the path isn't super linear. There have been times when I switched careers and learned about different paths.
I think that's the most important thing, especially for students or young professionals. Keep an open mind, because you might end up really liking an opportunity. Gaining experience in different fields and exploring is key.
Don't be too committed to one kind of path. There might be things that come along, or you might find more about yourself or a career that you like a lot, or don't like. It's okay to make those switches.
Mentorship is also big in helping others. I wouldn't be here without all the people I've met along the way who have mentored me, introduced me to others, and gotten me to where I am now.
Paying it forward and helping others when you're in a position to do so is super important. It pays dividends in the long run.
