What skills are most important for a job like yours, in any job in banking, and I'll say most industries?
It's the ability to have analytical skills, to be able to crunch numbers and work on the business side of things, risks, and things of that nature. You also need to be sociable.
In any business where you have customers or clients, you have to be able to talk to people. If you can't do that on a regular basis, it gets really tough.
I encourage people, when you're in college, to go to events, go outside your comfort zone, meet people, and talk to people. Don't just stay online; you have to be out there.
One of the best things that helped me in being able to talk to people was working in restaurants for seven years, while going to high school and college. That forced me to be in front of different people every single night, whether I was waiting tables or serving drinks. It allowed my social skills to really grow.
I think that's actually one of the biggest benefits I've had in my career: being able to talk to all different types of people all the time.
