What skills are most important for a job like yours?
The main skill that's super important is communication. It is imperative in a job like mine. Verbal, oral, and written communication is super key.
As a marketer, you're always talking or delivering messaging. Whether that's speaking to someone or writing that messaging, like slogans or posts on social media, all of that requires you to be a great communicator.
You need to know how to communicate within each medium and with each audience. Being analytically adept is also super important. You have to be able to take numbers, find meaning in them, and translate that information into something that others can understand.
Organization and project management are key. You have to be organized because there are so many different campaigns, projects, or initiatives going on at one time. You need to be aware of everything and able to access that information quickly.
Another thing is relationship building. You have to be able to build relationships with people within the organization. You never know who you'll have to call on.
To get funding or maintain it, or even to get information about the impact you're having, you need relationships with key stakeholders. I can call any of my old partners today and ask them if they would come support me. I've done that in other roles, and they've come and done programming with us because of those relationships. Those are probably the key skills that I require for the job.
