What skills are most important for a job like yours?
I think the skills that are really important in a job like this are communication and analysis. There's a lot of communication between different teams, so the ability to communicate effectively is incredibly important. This is true whether you're writing an email, calling an internal stakeholder, or any other form of communication.
Even more importantly, a lot of what we do involves persuading different teams to take action, even when we might not have direct power over what we're suggesting. So, how can you use communication to help persuade someone of an idea? I think that's number one.
Number two is that we definitely need to analyze and interpret information to make a recommendation. It's very important for us to say, "Okay, we have a potential problem. What data can we look at to analyze its source?" Once we have the source, what is the data telling us? What's our recommendation to fix it, and how are we going to go about doing that?
So, it's really a full stack process, from identifying a problem to creating and implementing a solution. This is really important for the work that I do.
Third, I think it's being self-directed. I mentioned that we're an open-ended team, and we don't have a total pipeline of tasks. We get to decide what we want to do. So, having the ability to prioritize is incredibly important. This includes not only prioritizing but also knowing when to turn down work.
Therefore, I would say that communication, the ability to analyze and interpret information, and prioritization are credible skill sets for this job.
