What are your main responsibilities within your current role?

The main responsibility at the Vets is medical performance. Currently, there are many different ways medicine can be practiced.

From its inception, the Vets has focused on looking at the evidence base and basing decisions and guidance on that medical evidence. This allows us to say that the evidence supports a particular direction.

In many cases, we don't have scientific studies to guide choices between vaccines or procedures. When that happens, we focus on desired outcomes and collaborate with our medical advisory board or experts in the field.

I help coordinate our efforts to ensure veterinarians are focused on delivering the best medical outcomes based on available evidence. For example, with preventive medicine, there are many approaches.

Organizations like AHA and AAVMA have provided guidance on managing preventive medicine, starting about 10 to 12 years ago. Within our organization, we provide guidance to our veterinarians, which we call the gold standard. This is based on evidence for the best ways to achieve top outcomes.

This includes early diagnostics, screening for specific conditions, and deworming and vaccinations. We aim to provide top medicine so that clients understand they can get the best care for their pets anywhere in the country.
