What skills are most important for a job like yours?
I've been fortunate to wear a few different hats in a short amount of time. The biggest, universal skill I'd highlight is really those soft skills.
This includes being able to influence and talk to different groups of people. Hopefully, this doesn't come off as too shallow, but it's the ability to get people to like you in different situations.
In finance, most folks can be trained to do the job well. About 80 to 90% do the job very well.
But what really gets you up the ladder, helps you get promotions, and excel is when you get along with your coworkers. You can speak to senior leadership, those around you, and those below you.
So really, those soft skills are the most important universal skill you can develop in a business environment.
